The Local Area
Broughton and Milton Keynes Parish comprises the Broughton, Middleton and Oakgrove grid-squares.
The original villages of Broughton and Milton Keynes can trace their history back centuries, for example both contain 14th century churches. Milton Keynes Village boasts a number of thatched properties including it's pub. Broughton can boast a modern hotel. In both grid squares local history is remembered in street names - although Broughton also includes some street names with a railway theme.
Newer developments have been built over a number of years initially in Middleton, where of the development of the grid square is largely complete. Still to be built are those areas on the western fringe that form part of the Oakgrove Project. The Broughton grid square is seeing more intensive development at present.
Both Broughton and Middleton grid-squares contain newly-built primary schools. Secondary education is provided at Oakgrove School, located in the Middleton grid square. Phase One of this new state-of-the-art school opened in September 2005.
Currently completely undeveloped, Oakgrove is one of a number of Millennium Communities. Details of the proposals for Oakgrove, which include a number of features not seen in previous developments, can be found on the Oakgrove website - http://www.oakgrove-mk.org .
